Turkey on loose for festive run

The tenth festive fun run will have a turkey twist this year.

People will be urged to ‘catch the turkey’ ahead of Wakefield Hospice’s festive fun run round Pugneys next month.

Fiona Day, an events fundraiser at Wakefield Hospice, said: “Catch the Turkey is a fun way to celebrate a decade of fantastic, festive support for Wakefield Hospice. Our game volunteer is not a professional runner and will run until he is caught, so someone will win an amazing prize.”

Whoever ‘catches the turkey’ will win a Blacker Hall Farm Turkey Royale Hamper, worth over £100.

Fiona added: “Straight afterwards will be the annual fun run. We invite the whole community to come along to be part of this event and join in the fun.”

Over the last ten year’s hundreds of supporters have walked, jogged or run round the lake at Pugneys in Christmas fancy dress and have raised more than £35,000 from doing so.

The charity is now looking for fleet-footed supporters to help them capture the turkey at 10.15am, ahead of the main event at 10.30am on Sunday, December 11.

The event has been sponsored by Xplore and Laser Zone.

In addition to the fun run, Wakefield District Cycle Forum will be leading a festive bike ride from Pugneys to Anglers Country Park and back, which also starts at 10.30am.
