Two schools have now become one

The school, for pupils aged from three to 11, was formed from the merger of Redhill Junior and Redhill Infant schools.

Headteacher Margaret Brownlee said the merger was “a very exciting opportunity”.

She said: “It’s two good schools coming together and it is about learning to be one.

“Every member of staff is concerned with the children throughout their primary education.”

Children chose the school’s new name after researching the local area.

A short-list of suggestions were put forward by the pupils, who then voted on their favourite.

The winning name was inspired by the local landscape as the school overlooks nearby Fairburn Ings nature reserve.

Pupils were also invited to enter a competition to design the logo for their uniform.

Year five student Keighley Ritchards created the winning design - a rainbow over Fairburn Ings, with three ducks swimming in the lake.

School business manager Andrea Lund said: “The new school is a fresh start for the community. That’s why we have given it a new name and chosen a new uniform.

“Staff are now working together and building a partnership to offer our children the best education.”

Children and staff will spend the first year of the merger working across both the former schools’ sites.

But building work will begin in October on a new £500,000 school at Stansfield Drive, due to be opened next September.

The school has a maximum capacity of 420 children with 39 nursery places.

Sixty children can be admitted each year.
