UPDATE: British Transport Police confirm man died after being hit by a train at South Elmsall Railway Station

The incident at South Elmsall railway station on Friday night is not being treated as suspicious. A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to South Elmsall railway station on Friday April 11 following reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP and West Yorkshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 7.31pm.

“Paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended, but the man, who was aged 26, and was from the Huddersfield area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, including how he came to be on the tracks and will prepare a report for the Coroner.”

Rail passengers faced delays between Doncaster and Wakefield Westgate as Northern Rail Services were unable to call at South Elmsall on Friday night.

East Coast train services between London and Leeds were also affected.

Train services resumed as normal on Saturday.
