Police said she was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head and internal injuries. Her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed in both directions, between the Sugar Lane junction and Denmark Street junction until around 5.30pm on yesterday (Wednesday) evening.

An event for fans to meet Wakefield Trinity Wildcats players was cancelled due to the closure. More than 100 people were expected to attend the meet and greet, which was due to take place at the team’s Belle Vue stadium at 7pm.

But it was called off on police advice.

Chairman Michael Carter said: “We ask that people keep their receipts as we will be looking to reschedule the event in January.”
