UPDATE: Van driver arrested after man died in Flockton collision

A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man was killed in a car crash in Flockton this morning (Wednesday).

The 22-year-old died when his Citroen C4 was in collision with a Vauxhall Insignia on the A637 Barnsley Road near the Grange Moor roundabout at around 6.42am. The two cars were travelling in opposite directions.

The driver of a Peugeot van was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision.

It was the second accident on the road in two days after a man in his 40s suffered multiple injuries in a head on smash in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Sergeant Ann Drury of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “Extensive enquiries remain ongoing into what has been a tragic incident on the A637.

“The circumstances into the cause of the crash remain under investigation and I would ask anybody who witnessed the collision itself or any of the vehicles prior to the collision to contact us.

“The male arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed to a later date while enquiries continue.”
