Fox’s Biscuits in Batley is looking at making up to 88 of the 910 people it currently employs redundant.

A spokesman for Fox’s parent company, the 2 Sisters Food Group, said: “We can confirm we have entered into a period of consultation with some of our colleagues at our site in Batley.

“It is far too early to say what impact this will have, but some roles will regrettably be at risk of redundancy.

“However, we will be working hard with colleagues to minimise the impact of our proposals and look at all alternative options, including voluntary redundancy, redeployments and the creation of some new roles.”

Ian Wood, from the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union, said: “Even one person losing their job is bad. At the end of the day it’s not good a good situation at all.

“The company is not making as much money as it would like. It’s just one thing after another.”

He said the redundancies would come from all levels of the factory, including 18 management or admin positions, 30 line captain positions and 40 shop floor positions.

He was told that 14 jobs may become available to replace some of the shop floor jobs and another 14 to replace line captain jobs.

He hoped this would reduce the actual number of jobs lost to 60.

There will be a 45-day consultation and staff will able to volunteer for redundancy.
