Pontefract’s former police station has been demolished without the correct planning permission.

Sweet giant Haribo has submitted a planning application to Wakefield Council seeking to demolish the Sessions House Yard building and turn it into a car park for its Front Street factory.

A Wakefield Council spokeswoman said the application was received on September 23 and a decision is not due until November 16.

But the building was demolished at the end of last month, without appropriate permission from the council.

The spokeswoman said no planning permission had been granted for the demolition of the building.

She said: “The application has not been submitted as a retrospective application at this stage.”

A design and access statement submitted with the application said the building was owned by Haribo.
