Homes in Pontefract are currently without water due to a broken valve.
Engineers were searching for a leak on Southgate at around 6am today (Friday) when a valve broke during routine testing.
Around 49 properties have been affected by the incident and are without water.
Yorkshire Water is on site now carrying out emergency repairs and temporary traffic lights are in place.
A spokeswoman for the company said she hoped water would be restored to the homes this morning and bottled water is available on Southgate.
She added: “We want to apologise to those without water and those inconvenienced by the extra traffic lights. This was not anticipated and we are working to get it fixed as quickly as possible.”
Anyone who requires water for medical reasons should call 0845 124 2424.
