Hundreds of school children sang in Pontefract as part of the town’s Armed Forces Day celebrations.
Youngsters from eight schools across the area performed at the Buttercross in Pontefract today (Thursday) at the event organised by the Ackworth and Pontefract branch of the Royal British Legion.
Peter Evans, vice president of the branch, said: “We started doing the event five years ago and it has grown every year since.
“It’s great and the children understand why they are doing it and that’s the main thing as far as I’m concerned.”
Wakefield district’s biggest ever Armed Forces Day event will tkae place at Nostell Priory on Saturday.
Performances from 150 TPR Regiment’s Marching Band, The Ravens parachute display and the Army Cadets Corp of Drums will perform at the event which runs from 10am until around 4pm.
The event is free but charges will apply for visits to the house and parking.
