VIDEO: Wakefield mayor opens rhubarb fest

The Mayor of Wakefield, Coun Sandra Pickin, officially declared Wakefield Rhubarb Festival open.

Coun Pickin gave a speech in the cookery theatre, outside Wakefield Cathedral, as people waited to watch TV chef Rachel Green start her cookery masterclass.

The star of ITV Yorkshire’s Flying Cook will be cooking again at 2.15pm to 2.45pm and 3.45pm to 4.15pm.

Producers from across Yorkshire have lined the cathedral precinct to present their rhubarb flavoured creations.

Stall holder, Jane Gordon of Bedazzled Cupcakes, said: “I only ever make rhubarb and custard flavoured cupcakes for this festival.

“They always sell out here. It’s a fantastic event.”

The festival will run from 10am to 5pm today and tomorrow and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
