VIDEO: Wakefield pays its respects to Nice attack victims

Mayor of Wakefield Harry Ellis led a minute’s silence at the war memorial opposite County Hall today (Friday).

More than 80 people, including children, were killed when a lorry drove into crowds in the southern French city on Bastille Day yesterday.

The silence took place at 11am.

Wakefield Council leader Peter Box, West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson and Coun Sandra Pickin paid their respects at the service.

Coun Box CBE Leader of Wakefield Council said: “Our thoughts and sincere sympathies are with the people of France who have been affected by yet another terrible tragedy.

“This was an appalling attack and on behalf of the people of Wakefield I would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the people who died, and our prayers for those who were injured.”
