VIDEO: Wakefield Rhubarb Festival - enjoy a weekend of food and drink

It was a day for food lovers at the opening day at Wakefield Rhubarb Festival.

Celebrity chefs, local restaurateurs and even Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls took to the cooking stage on the cathedral precinct as the three-day festival got underway today (Friday).

Friday saw demonstrations from ITV Yorkshire’s Flying Cook star Rachel Green, chef Phil Levrington and James Lodge from Wakefield’s Mex Cantina.

And even the Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls MP, met his match in Heather Copley as they prepared culinary treats for festival goers.

The festival is now in its ninth year and celebrates the city’s place at the heart of the rhubarb triangle between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell.

Producers from across Yorkshire have lined the cathedral precinct to present their rhubarb flavoured creations.

Festival compere Richard Fox will kick off demonstrations at the marquee from 10am on Saturday.

And celebrity chef Brian Turner will be on stage at 11.30am, 2.15pm and 4pm.

Sunday’s highlights include Great British Bake Off finalist Luis Troyano at 11.30am and 3.30pm, and Cbeebies presenter Kat Ashworth at l2.15 and 2.45pm.

The festival, in the cathedral precinct, and will run from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
