Votes flood in for community heroes awards

More than 1,700 people have already voted for their community heroes in this year’s Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) Love Where You Live Awards.

The third annual awards ceremony, which recognises people who have made a difference in their community, will take place in October.

There is still time to cast your vote before the September 26 deadline.

Kevin Dodd, WDH chief executive, said: “The Love Where You Live Awards have become an important part of WDH’s calendar.

“Many tenants, residents and community groups get a great deal of pleasure from brightening up their surroundings and helping other people to enjoy life in their neighbourhoods.

“Our Love Where You Live Awards are a community-wide celebration of people who make this a district to be proud of.

“Each year we are overwhelmed by the number of entries we receive, and with £500 on offer to each of our winners we expect this year’s competition to be even bigger than before.”

Last year inspirational South Kirkby teenager Josh Salmons, pictured, picked up the young achiever award.
