Wakefield Express news editor Gavin Murray, who is one of the judges, said: “We have received some brilliant entries to this year’s awards and the panel will have its work cut out picking the winners.

“The businesses who have taken part are a credit to the city and have played a vital role in the recent success story of our district.”

The judging panel is completed by Wakefield Council’s service director for economic growth and skills, Clare Elliott, and Leeds Beckett University’s enterprise and innovation manager, enterprise services, Katie Rigarlsford.

This year’s awards have so far been sponsored by Engie, HSBC, Haribo, Leeds Beckett University and Wakefield Council.

BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration will host the ceremony, which will be held at Unity Works on Thursday, June 21.

A study released earlier this year ranked the Wakefield district as the 10th fastest growing economy in the UK and figures showed that from the third quarter of last year it is worth a total of £6.5 billion. And tourism is booming with the most recent figures released showing the industry is worth a total of £365.7 million to the district.
