Wakefield CAMRA crowns winner of Pub of the Season award

The Black Rock, in Bread Street, was presented with Wakefield Camra Pub of the Season award for Spring yesterday (Thursday).

Branch chairman Albert Bradbury said: “It was a good presentation, we had quite a good turnout as well of locals and Camra members.

“It’s a good community local, in the heart of the city, serving good beer with pleasant staff in comfortable surroundings.”

The award means the pub will now go through to Wakefield Cmara’s prestigious Pub of the Year competition.

It has five hand pulls, and Mr Bradbury said the pub is hoping to add two more.

Landlord Shaun Slater said: “It was a great presentation and we are looking forward to adding the award to our collection and hopefully getting some more.”

The pub building has been standing for more than 200 years and used to be a draper’s shop.

It is a regular pub to be featured in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide.
