Wakefield Cathedral memorial for PC Wes Kingsley

Police officers paid tribute to one of their former colleagues during a special service at Wakefield Cathedral.

A memorial was held in the city centre today (Monday) for PC Wes Kingsley, of Central neighbourhood police team (NPT).

The 35-year-old died on Monday, March 25, after sustaining an injury in a fall at Leeds Train Station, while off duty.

Chief Supt Andy Battle of Wakefield Police said: “Wes was an extremely popular and respected colleague and his death has greatly touched all who knew him.

“Wes spent a great deal of time in communities in his time at Wakefield, particularly through his work with the Wakefield Central NPT, where he was a familiar face among the neighbourhoods he served.”

PC Kingsley had served with West Yorkshire Police since February 2005 and lived with his wife Sarah and two young sons, aged two and four, at their home in South Hiendley.

Among those to attend Wakefield Cathedral were Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns Williamson and Chief Constable Mark Gilmore.

Donations are being made to the Blue Lamp Police memorial fund in his honour.
