Wakefield College graduates help make Yorkshire a formidable global force

The latest Wakefield College graduates will have an important role to play in helping the county become a global force.

Paul Reid, chairman of Wakefield First made the comments during a graduation ceremony at Wakefield Cathedral this week.

Mr Reid, who was the guest speaker at the event, said: “I have witnessed the dedication and commitment you put in day in day out to make Wakefield College such an outstanding establishment.

“The combination of motivated students, with relevant skills attuned to a growing local and regional enterprise is what will continue to make Wakefield, Yorkshire, England and the UK such a fantastic place to live and work and a formidable force in an increasingly global marketplace.”

This year more than 300 students achieved a higher education qualification at the college, including higher national diplomas, higher national certificates, foundation degrees and degrees with honours.

Principal Sam Wright said: “The annual graduation ceremony is a significant event in the college’s calendar where staff, students, friends and families celebrate the achievements of our higher education learners.

“Saturday’s event was another proud moment for me and I was delighted to be there to celebrate our learners’ success.”

The students earned qualifications in a variety of subjects including computing, childhood studies, care, sports studies, music, engineering, business and management, web design, theatre and accounting.

Many graduates have already progressed on to further study, through top-up degrees at the college or other universities across the country.

The college will be having an open day on Saturday, November 22 from 10am until 12.30pm at the Wakefield City Campus.
