A window display in a Union Street unit is awash with colourful creations including a giant penny farthing, route maps and bright bikes.

The inter schools competition was run by Wakefield Council and organised by officer Di Briggs. It had a recycling theme.

Today (Friday) Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture sport and leisure, and Lisa Ferguson, senior markets and major events manager, had the tricky job of judging it.

They voted Hendal Primary Schools 3D route map as the winner. Horbury Primary’s yellow bike, made out of recycled yoghurts tops and jars, came second. Hendal also came third with “Tour de Yorkshire, recycle, race times”.

Coun Shaw said: “I think the pictures are absolutely fantastic and so is the way the children have stuck to the design brief. It’s all about cycling and recycling.
