Water bills to fall in Yorkshire

New regulations announced on today (Friday) will force water companies to lower their charges.

Ofwat, the industry regulator, has fixed new caps on prices for the next five years, which will see a three per cent cut for Yorkshire Water customers.

It means the average bill will be reduced from £373 this year to £361 by 2019/20.

The fall in bills comes as final regulatory approval was given by Ofwat to Yorkshire Water’s latest five-year business plan, which will see the company invest more than £3.8 billion in the region’s water and sewerage services.

The investment will be focussed on improving customer services and delivering major environmental benefits.

Richard Flint, the company’s chief executive, said it is hoped the money will drive significant improvements in customer service, as well as delivering major environmental benefits across the region.

He said: “This is great news for our customers who already benefit from having some of the lowest bills in the UK.

“When pulling together our plan, more than 30,000 customers gave us their views on what they thought we should be investing in.

“Our consultation programme was the biggest of all the water and sewerage companies, so we’re confident that it represents real value for money for our customers.”
