Hundreds of Wakefield homes in the dark after unplanned power cuts - as snow continues to fall

Norther Powergrid confirmed it was aware of unplanned power cuts affecting the LS26, WF2, WF4, WF6 and WF7 postcode areas.

The first power cut, affecting around 100 homes in Newmillerdam, Crigglestone and Painthorpe, was reported at 7.52am.

A spokesperson for Norther Powergrid said: "The power cut affecting your property has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area

"We are currently working hard to restore your power however we are unable to provide an accurate restoration time. Please call us on 105 if you have any specific questions."

A second power cut has also bee reported in the south east of the district.

Around 130 homes in Sharlston Common, West Hardwick and Ackworth have been without power since 9.12am.

In a notice on its website, Northern Powergrid said: "Our team are working hard to restore your power as quickly as possible

"The power cut affecting your property has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area."

It is estimated that power will be restored to the affectd properties by 10.45am.
