Storm Babet: Further flood alerts issued across Wakefield and Pontefract

Just days after Storm Babet hit parts of the district, the Met Office has warned locals to expect more heavy rain – which may bring further floods.

The Met Office has issued a new flood alert for the Middle River Aire catchment area – which includes parts of Castleford and Stanley.

This alert remains in force as water levels in the areas adjacent to the river, such as washlands and flood storage areas remain relatively high.

Affected areas include, Mickletown Ings, Lowther Washlands, Allerton Ings, Newton Ings and Fairburn Ings.

A yellow weather warning was put in place across the district, yesterday, with heavy rain set to affect most areas this afternoon (Tuesday).

Residents are being urged to expect difficult driving conditions and road closures that may lead to delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

The Met Office has also warned residents to take care around any standing flood water
