Weekend roadworks on A1(M)

Motorists face delays due to weekend overnight closures on the A1 near Ferrybridge.

The Highways Agency will carry out overnight repairs and maintenance work on the carriageway from this weekend.

The work involves resurfacing and replacing road markings as well as road studs on the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A1 between Ferrybridge and Redhouse in South Yorkshire.

It is due to start on Saturday and should be completed by March 30.

The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am and will require various overnight carriageway closures, with clearly-signed diversions in place.

Closures include:

- Saturday, March 15 – northbound carriageway closed between Redhouse and Barnsdale.

- Saturday, March 22 – northbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Ferrybridge.

- Sunday, March 23 – southbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Ferrybridge.

- Saturday, March 29 and Sunday March, 30 – southbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Redhouse.

Closures are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions.

Alan Apps, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “This is routine work to tackle wear and tear on this section of the A1, and will result in improved journeys for road users.

By carrying out the work overnight, we will be keeping disruption to a minimum, but drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.”
