When Santa got stuck in the mineshaft

While Father Christmas is usually known for climbing down chimneys this year he has taken things one step further - by climbing down a 140m mineshaft.

Sooty Santa has set up his extreme grotto - complete with fire place, stockings, baubles and pressies - way, way underground as part of the National Coal Mining Museum’s Christmas celebrations.

The transformed mine, which will be home to Santa until December 23, can be found at the museum’s site in Wakefield.

Once down in lavishly decorated wonderland, visitors can meet up with Mr Claus to tell him their Christmas wishes and leave with a pressie and certificate.

This unique grotto experience will be taking place every weekend until the December 17 and 18, and every day between Monday 19 - December 23.
