White Rose Surgery gets top marks

A GP surgery has been rated as “outstanding” after a visit by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission.

The health watchdog gave the White Rose Surgery, on Exchange Street, South Elmsall, a glowing report as part of a nationwide programme inspections at GP practices.

The CQC rated the surgery as “outstanding” for being effective and responsive and “good” for being safe, caring and well-led.

Inspectors praised the screening of smokers at the surgery, which they said led to a 26 per cent reduction in hospital admissions for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 12 months.

Unplanned hospital admissions among house-bound patients had also been reduced by 12 per cent.

And inspectors were impressed with gym facilities at the surgery and the fact that health information was translated for Polish-speaking patients.

Sue McMillan, deputy chief inspector of general practice in the north, said: “I am delighted to highlight the exceptional standard of care which is being provided by White Rose Surgery.

“Feedback from patients we spoke with during the inspection and comments we received were positive and staff sought patient views how improvements could be made.”

“Staff demonstrated a sound understanding of the differing needs of their patients and reflected these needs when planning and delivering services. This is a great example of what outstanding care looks like.”
