AS we move into the last part of the year we are once again asking for your help to tell us who have been Your Heroes of 2011.
We are looking for the many local stars across our district the people whose hard work, bravery, courage and generosity often goes unrewarded and unnoticed.
And it’s these people who we want to give a chance to shine.
But we will need you, our readers, to help make sure the amazing achievements of these people are rightly recognised, rewarded and celebrated in the third Express Your Heroes Awards.
We are looking for seven community heroes.
They should be the people who have touched your lives and may not even realise they have done so.
However major or minor their contribution maybe all our heroes need to be the people who make our area a better place to live and work. Maybe it is a friendly neighbour who looks out for others in the community or a teacher who has seen you through some difficult times?
Perhaps a lollipop person who braves all weather to make sure your children get safely to?
It’s up to you - if you feel they are a hero in your eyes, please let us know.
You can nominate someone either by filling in the coupon and sending it in to News Editor Gavin Murray, Your Heroes, Wakefield Express, Express House, Southgate, WF1 1TE or click on the link on this page. The deadline for nominations is noon on Friday, October 21.
Once we’ve received all the nominations we will put together a list, so you our readers can help us decide on the winners.
There are seven catego-ries, explained below, four of which will be judged by a panel at the Express offices.
And three of which will be decided by a reader vote. The awards will culminate in a ceremony at Wakefield Town Hall on Monday, December 5.
Joanne Roney, Wakefield Council’s Chief Executive OBE said: “Once again we are proud to host the ceremony and lend our support to these awards, and the Wakefield Express. There are many inspirational people in our district who deserve the opportunity to shine and Your Heroes 2011 could be their moment. I encourage people to come forward with nominations so we can make it a night to remember for as many people as possible.”
