Yorkshire Regiment to march through the streets in Freedom Parade

More than 100 soldiers from the battalion will be in Huddersfield for the Freedom Parade tomorrow.

The parade will set off in the town from St John’s Road at 10.50am before a ceremony is held outside Ryman Stationery at 11am.

The battalion will then parade, with bands playing in the background and bayonets fixed, across the town.

Mayor of Kirklees Coun Paul Kane and the vice Lord Lietenant of West Yorkshire Tim Hare will greet the soldiers when they arrive.

Coun Kane said: “Just as Huddersfield is proud of the Dukes, now the whole of Kirklees is proud of its connection with The Yorkshire Regiment.

“As in previous years, I know that the people of Kirklees will turn out in their numbers to show their support and welcome our heroes home.”

It comes after the regiment was granted the freedom of Huddersfield, when it formed in the 2006, by Kirklees Council.

Crowds lined the streets across the region, including in Skipton, Bradford and Barnsley, for similar parades by the regiment this week.

A further Freedom Parade will take place in Halifax later on Saturday.

Motorists could face delays as rolling road closures will be in place along the parade route.
