LETTER: Pensioners die penniless and alone in Wakefield

Since the Tories came to power more than 100,000 pensioners have died penniless and alone and have been buried in ‘paupers’ graves’.

The funerals have to be paid for by the local council with an average cost of £900 each - 40,000 people in the UK receive a state funeral each year because of the lack of money to pay for a funeral, some 21,000 pensioners and 19,000 unemployed or homeless people per year.

These figures are rising at about 12 per cent per year and will get worse because of the ageing population.

I am not talking about a third world country I am talking about the United Kingdom, another example of the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ with this Conservative government.
