LETTER: Petition signatures are against closure of Castleford and Knottingley pools as well as Pontefract.

I’m writing in relation to the reports in the P&C Express stating that over 9,000 people have signed the petition against the closures of the baths at Castleford, Pontefract and Knottingley.

People who have not got a vested interest may be under the misapprehension that it only concerns one swimming baths.

Whilst the initiative was started by the Pontefract forum, people who use Castleford baths and staff also played a key role in the gathering of signatures.

I personally contacted Morrison’s supermarket at Pontefract and, with their consent and support, have had petition forms at their customer services at the entrance of their supermarket since February.

I estimate that 3,000 signatures have been collected inclusively from Morrisons and Castleford Baths.

I delivered all the petition forms periodically to Pontefract Baths.

Just because we don’t have a committee or forum at Castleford Baths, or are as vociferous as Pontefract, doesn’t mean that the people who use Castleford baths don’t care.

I can assure that we all care very deeply, and are determined to stop the closure of not only the baths at Castleford but at Pontefract and Knottingley also.
