Congratulations to Sheena Ritson on her 70th birthday charity swim, raising £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
I thought her comments regarding the pool were very poignant. If the pool at Castleford closes, what will happen to the older people who obviously use this facility as a means of keeping fit, active and healthy?
Swimming is often the only kind of exercise that some older people can manage. These people will be deprived of their social centre too, as I believe that they meet for a cup of tea/coffee and a chat after their swim at Castleford.
We, as a nation, are continually told how important exercise is, in order to keep our bodies and minds healthy.
Without this exercise, will the people of Castleford, Knottingley and Pontefract end up being more of a drain on the NHS, through no fault of their own?
