CASTLEFORD Kings speedway team have successfully applied to join the Midland Development League in 2013.
The application was approved at the league’s annual general meeting in Coventry on Saturday.
The other seven teams in the league are Belle Vue (Manchester), Sheffield, Coventry, Milton Keynes, Stoke, Long Eaton (Nottingham) and Scunthorpe.
There may be one further application to join the league from King’s Lynn who have until February 28 next year to apply.
Kings team manager Peter Hibberd is spearheading a move to bring speedway back to Castleford for the first time for 32 years. The club are trying to identify a site in the area which would be suitable to again stage the sport locally.
Until land is found, the Kings plan to share the stadium and facilities at Scunthorpe for staging home meetings.
Hibberd has already opened contract negotiations with two possible signings.
