Castleford CC were unable to repeat their winning performances from the week before as they were made to struggle by Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB Premier League leaders Barnsley on Saturday.
Alex Romaniw’s men were made to struggle with bat and ball as they went down by 155 runs to drop back down to third from bottom.
The Cas skipper won the toss and elected to field, but was soon made to regret the decision as Barnsley opener Jonathan Trower in particular tucked into the bowling on offer.
With James Brown he put on 106 for the first wicket before Brown was caught by Luke Edwards off the bowling of Jack Shutt for 29.
Danial Rafiq became Shutt’s second victim with the score on 139, but former Yorkshire player Azeem Rafiq then joined Trower and the runs flowed again.
Trower was finally out for 110, made off 129 balls, when he was caught by Eddie Morrison off the bowling of Romaniw, but Rafiq continued to attack and hit two sixes and five fours in a knock of 57.
Barnsley were able to reach 288-7 by the end of their 50 overs with Shutt (3-87) and David Wainwright (2-61) the most successful of Castleford’s bowlers.
Castleford’s reply started steadily enough as James Sykes (14) and Luke Frankland (18) put on 43 for the first wicket, but both fell to Brown before the prize wicket of Wainwright was taken by Ali Jahangir with the Cas star all-rounder out for just seven.
Wickets then went down at regular intervals before Castleford were all out for 133 in the 39th over.
Shutt top scored with 26, but only Romaniw (11 not out) of the remaining batsmen joined him in double figures as Brown took 4-19, Jahangir 4-38 and Zohaib Ahmad 2-33.
Castleford seconds were beaten by seven wickets by Malton & Old Malton II in the York Senior League’s Division Three North.
Cas totalled a disappointing 131-6 with Edward Cole top scoring with 73. In reply, Malton made 132-3 with Tom Audsley (48) top scoring.
