Castleford CC hit top spot in Yorkshire Premier League North
Castleford went top of the Yorkshire Premier League North following a double success over the holiday weekend.
A 26-run win over Clifton Alliance in a low scoring contest on Saturday was followed by a more convincing 72-run victory at Acomb on Monday as Castleford made it five out of five in their completed league matches this year.
In the first of the games it was looking tricky for Cas as they were restricted to 145-8 with none of their batsmen able to make a big score.
But contributions of 28 from Umair Khan and 22 by Christopher Briggs proved vital as Clifton Alliance were kept to 119-9 from their 50 overs.
Eddie Morrison did most to restrict them as he claimed 4-29 while Jack Young finished with 3-33.
Monday's game saw Castleford elect to bat and it proved a good decision as they were able to post a 236-8 total.
Umair Khan led the way with a knock of 77 that included eight fours and a six. Support came from skipper David Wainwright (46 from 56 balls), Brayden Clark (35) and Connor Hyde (24).
Acomb were all out for 164 in reply with Wainwright taking 3-23, Chesney Hughes 2-33 and Morrison 2-38.
