Castleford CC suffer league and cup defeats

Castleford CC were knocked out of the of the J P Plant Yorkshire Leagues Knockout Cup by Yorkshire Academy in the second round on Monday.

Despite a four-wicket haul from Eddie Morrison, Castleford suffered a 92-run defeat at Savile Park.

The visitors went in first and were kept to 199-9. Openers Harry Brook and Ben Ainsley hit 48 and 42 respectively, but it was never easy for the remaining Yorkshire batsmen against an attack led by Morrison (4-16), Connor Hyde (2-44) and Daniel Robson (2-42).

Liam Hyde responded with 45 for the home side and Byron Grant hit 19, but the North Leagues’ leading wicket taker James Logan, with 3-10, ensured his side progressed into the last eight with Castleford all out for 107.

Castleford were well beaten by second-placed Stamford Bridge in their Yorkshire Premier League North game on Saturday.

After being put in they were reduced to 26-4 with only Liam Hyde (12) of the early batsmen reaching double figures.

Skipper David Wainwright tried hard to bring about a recovery, but none of the other batsmen could stay with him for long and although he stuck it out for 86 balls to hit a battling 39 the captain was eventually eighth man out with the score on 89.

No more runs were added for the last two wickets and Castleford’s 89 all out was not likely to present many problems for the title contenders, for who overseas bowler Donovan Sinclair took 4-37.

Luke Robinson also took 3-19 in 16 accurate overs while Dominic Rhodes claimed 3-27.

Castleford bowlers Daniel Robson and Tom O’Connor did manage to take a wicket each, but Stamford Bridge reached their target in just 18.1 overs.

Castleford seconds lost by six wickets to Civil Service in the Hunters York Senior League Ebor Division Three.

Batting first, Castleford were all out for 129 with Nigel Ling (26) top scoring.

Civil Service then knocked the runs off for the loss of four wickets in 29 overs.

Despite a wicket each from Izack Newrick, Charlie Goose and Arien Memery Castleford under 11s lost by 45 runs to Newton Hill under 11s in the Pontefract Junior League after posting a net score of 175 with the extras total of 19 being the biggest contributor.
