A fine all-round effort from skipper David Wainwright helped Castleford to win a tight contest with Driffield Town in the Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North.

Castleford held their nerve to win by two runs and improve their position in the table further.

Wainwright top scored with 34 in a modest total of 179-9 then took three wickets at a cost of just 23 from 13 overs.

Despite eight of the Cas line-up reaching double figures they were unable to post a big score as Nick Hardgrave took 4-23 from his 13 overs.

Alec Drury (72) and Mark Tennant (62) got the visitors off to a terrific start in their reply with an opening stand of 113, but Wainwright and John Randerson (3-41) put the brakes on proceedings and Town, with just one win since the opening day came up just short.

Castleford seconds improved their position in the York Senior League’s Ebor Division Three as they beat Copmanthorpe by 95 runs.

With good efforts from Harry Wilkinson (54), Oran White (53) and David Tomlinson (53 not out) Castleford posted a 269-4 total. They then restricted their opponents to 174-7 with Michael Jarvis taking 3-31 and Jack Young 3-45.
