Fairburn and Brook-Walton march on in National Village Cup

Fairburn bounced back from Saturday's Pontefract Cricket League Division One defeat against Brook-Walton by reaching the last 64 in the National Village Cup on Sunday.

They visit East Ardsley in the West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside regional final on June 12 after crushing Oulton who were routed for 59 by Adam Williamson (5-17) and Ian Jones (2-8).

Openers Ian Raynor and Jones put on 37 as Fairburn eased to an eight-wicket win.

Fairburn will aim to move another step closer to the final at Lord’s on September 4 when they face East Ardsley who defeated Streethouse by 45 runs at Whinney Lane in the other regional semi-final.

Brook-Walton completed a successful weekend by beating Woodhouses by 13 runs in the South Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside regional semi-final.

Mark Robinson hit 47 as Brook recovered from a dreadful start to post 146-6 in their 40 overs.

Richard Vigars (24no), Jordan Harvey (22) and Shane Payne (20no) were also important contributors.

Kevin Watson claimed 6-32 and Payne 2-23 as Woodhouses were bowled out for 133.

In the regional final, Brook visit Egerton who won at Salesbury last night (Tuesday).
