Great Preston missed out on the Jack Hampshire Cup final when they were beaten by six wickets by Bowling Old Lane in Sunday’s semi.

A decent batting effort gave them hopes as Great Preston posted a total of 203-7 when they went in first, but their opponents also found conditions to their liking and paced their run chase well to get home with eight overs in hand.

Ahsan Butt (89) and skipper Farkh Hussain (52) led the reply and it was hard work for all the Great Preston bowlers with Lee Russell, Jack Morrison, Joe Schofield and Oli Baron all taking one wicket each.

In Great Preston’s innings, David Illingworth (43) and Phil Schofield (37) combined in a 66-run stand for the fifth wicket while further contributions came from Morrison (32) and Stuart Ruddick (25 not out).
