Hyde plays key role as Castleford keep up pressure at top

ALL rounder Liam Hyde was outstanding as Castleford 1sts kept up the pressure on Yorkshire and District Senior League Premier Division leaders Sessay by coming out on top at fourth-placed Dunnington.

Hyde hit 63 and snapped up 3-42 as Castleford collected 27 points from a winning draw.

They are 27 points adrift of Sessay and 12 ahead of third-placed Studley Royal.

Cas recovered from 25-2 to post 214-7 with Hyde hammering three sixes and six fours in an excellent knock compiled off 73 balls.

Connor Fisher, who finished unbeaten on 60, was also a vital contributor.

Eddie Morrison, who had superb figures of 4-29 from 15 overs, and Hyde limited Dunnington’s reply to 169-9 with last pair Jack Spofforth (51no) and Jay Sowden (8no) sharing an unbroken 31-run stand.

Cas host bottom team Goole Town on Saturday.

In Division Three Ebor, Castleford 2nds lost by six wickets at home to third-placed Cawood.

Castleford, who are third bottom, posted 175-7 in their 45 overs which Cawood overhauled with five overs to spare.

Darren Tomlinson (69) and Jack Young (48) led Castleford’s scoring.

Keith Towndow (40no), Tom Russell (38) and all-rounder James Pullein (38no and 4-46) shone for Cawood.

Castleford 2nds visit their Goole counterparts on Saturday.

Normanton conceded last Thursday’s under 11s match at Castleford.
