Castleford continued their run of good form in the Hunters Yorkshire Premier League North with a 46-run victory over Yorkshire Academy at Savile Park.
Opening pair Rizwan Hussain (43) and David Wainwright (53) laid down a solid platform with an 81-run partnership.
Edward Cole and Christopher Briggs contributed 19 apiece and Connor Hyde made an unbeaten 38 as the home side went on to score 205-9. Matthew Taylor was the pick of the visitors’ bowling with 4-33, but they struggled to find any momentum during the chase.
James Wharton made 69 at the top of the order, but a regular loss of wickets at the other end meant the home side were always on top.
Edward Barnes sought to seize the initiative with a run-a-ball 42, but the visitors lost their last four wickets for only two runs, Wainwright finishing with 3-40, Liam Hyde 2-51 and Connor Hyde 2-8.
The maximum point victory lifted Castleford up to a best of season fifth place.
Castleford seconds made it a double success for the club as they beat Bishopthorpe by 23 runs in the Hunters York Senior League’s Ebor Division Three.
The result lifted Castleford into fifth place in the table, just behind Bishopthorpe.
Batting first, Castleford had good efforts from Matthew Clegg (50) and George Gibson (32), but they were all out for 151 with Jamie Blackburn taking 6-57.
Bishopthorpe batsmen were also made to struggle and they were all out for 128 in 21 overs, Gopi Chemudupati taking 3-5.
