Castleford captain Alex Romaniw was in fine bowling form over the weekend as his team recorded back to back wins in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB Premier League.
A three wicket win over Harrogate at Savile Park was followed by a six wicket success at Appleby Frodingham a day later with Romaniw leading the way with 10 wickets over the two games.
In the first of the games, Harrogate went in first and were kept to 225-9 as George Ross (67) top scored and Romaniw took 4-57 from 16 overs, supported by David Wainwright, who claimed 3-61 in 17 overs.
In reply, Castleford started soundly as James Sykes (17), Luke Frankland (25) and Freddie Collins (41) helped them to 70-1.
A mini stumble saw them reduced to 81-3, but Charles Finan joined Collins for a 73-run stand and went on to make 57 from 70 balls. With John Randerson chipping in with 18 and Jarran Cook 19 not out Cas reached their target with four balls to spare.
Sunday’s game saw Appleby Frodingham bowled out for 216 as Romaniw took 6-41 from 15 overs.
Castleford then paced their reply well to get home with almost six overs to spare. Wainwright led with an unbeaten 75 while Sykes hit 50, Frankland 28 and Finan 40.
Castleford seconds’ improved run came to an end in Division Three North of the York Senior League as they went down by 160 runs to Huby who scored 290-3 declared.
Cas were kept to 130-4 in reply with Nathan Smith hitting 76.
