Last year’s beaten finalists Townville made it successfully through the first round of the Heavy Woollen Cup on Sunday when they beat Birstall by seven runs.
In a low scoring contest, Peter Hepworth (4-22) and Anurag Verma (3-23) swung the game Townville’s way after they had struggled with the bat and could only make 150. Verma also top scored with a crucial knock of 35.
Methley piled up the runs in their victory over Hartshead Moor, Richard Foster hitting 84, Daniel Broadbent 76 and Edward Walmsley 53 not out in their 306-7 total. Hartshead were all out for 186 in reply, Sohail Raz taking 3-50.
Great Preston could not win their first game in the competition as they lost to Bradford League side Hanging Heaton by 10 wickets after making 186-8 with Matty King (53) top scoring.
