Ackworth Girls team is proving big success

The club caters for all age groups and abilities, starting with their Wildcats, who begin training when aged just four.

Ackworth now has teams at under 10s, under 12s, under 13s and under 15s as well as an open age ladies team playing in the West Riding County Women’s League.

The club launched last April after being involved as a girls section within the Ackworth Juniors FC set up for almost two years.

“We have seen a fantastic response since our launch and have just been asked to host the West Riding FA Junior Female finals in May for the second year running,” said the club’s social media officer Jemma Warner.

“Like any amateur club, we are constantly looking to recruit more players and create more teams and the more exposure we can achieve, the better.

“We are entirely voluntary run and funded, with a dedicated team of coaches and our management committee.

“We are also extremely proud to have recently qualified our first female FA junior referee #CharlieBReferee (Charlie Blackett). We qualified two female coaches in the past six months and are constantly looking at pathways for the girls.”

AGFC’s staff are all volunteers who give their free time and dedication to the girls. Some of their coaches have children of their own playing for the club, while a few have even stayed long after their own children have moved onto their next adventure.

All staff have the relevant FA Safeguarding and CRB checks in place.

The club also has a social side with events, days out, tournaments and annual presentations. With no need for any sort of trials for all interested players, the club is a warm and welcoming atmosphere to be in.
