Ackworth Juniors and the West Riding County Football Association teamed up to help support the FA Girls’ Football Week with a winning afternoon of fun.
Three village schools – Mill Dam Junior & Infants, Ackworth Howard Junior & Infants and Bell Lane Academy – all entered teams to play each other with girls representing class one to four lining up.
Despite a few rain showers the matches were played in great spirit and all the girls win, lose or draw had a fantastic time at Carr Bridge.
Ackworth Juniors secretary Andy Coupland said: “It was a real pleasure to be involved with the students from the three local schools, a brilliant turn out and all very enthusiastic about playing football.
“I was pleasantly surprised at the good level of football skills some of the girls displayed, hopefully one or two will come and join Ackworth Juniors.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to Steve Conboy, of the West Riding County FA, for his support in helping to put together the girls’ football festival. Judging by the smiles on the girls’ faces, they certainly seemed to have enjoyed themselves,.
Women & Girls football development officer Conboy said: “Ackworth Juniors put on a fantastic girls football event at Carr Bridge Playing Fields following free girls-only sessions delivered at Bell Lane Academy, Mill Dam Junior & Infants and Howard School as part of the FA Girls’ Football Week and in partnership with West Riding County FA.
“The club have shown fantastic commitment to creating their first ever girls’ teams for the local community and the work they have done so far is generating lots of interest that I am confident will result in the club achieving their goals of becoming a club for all.”
Any girls aged six and older wishing to come along to join in at training with Ackworth Juniors, or if parents or carers would like any further details, they can contact club secretary Andy Coupland on 07801 240921.
Once again huge thanks go to the Tesco branch at Hemsworth who supplied oranges, bananas and water to fuel the girls.
