After impressing in his spell as caretaker manager towards the end of last season Jon Miles has now landed the Glasshoughton Welfare manager‘s job on a permanent basis.
Wanting to build a team with local players earned Miles the permanent reins at the Northern Counties East Premier Division outfit, according to club chairman Phil Riding.
Miles, formerly reserve team boss at Leeds Road, was informed this week that he and his assistant, Mark Kellett, had “unanimously” got the job after interviews with several candidates took place.
He takes over from Rob Hunter, who resigned in March.
He was caretaker manager for 12 games at the end of the season just finished and won four of those matches, including a memorable away win at Tadcaster Albion who were challenging for the title at the time.
Miles now has two months to get a team ready for the August 9 kick-off of the NCE Premier Division season.
Pontefract Collieries, who will once again be in Division One of the NCE League, have announced their first pre-season friendlies.

They will then host Nostell MW on Saturday, July 19 (3pm) with more warm-up games to be added.

The trials are in preparation for pre-season training, which starts on Monday, June 23.
