NCE League Division One side Glasshoughton Welfare have appointed Darren Holmes and Lee Vigars as their new joint management team.
They replace Simon Houghton and Craig Wilkinson who resigned at the end of last season.
After playing junior football in the Ossett area, Holmes became a full-time professional footballer.
He gained contracts at Barnsley, Bradford City and York City. He then returned to the non-league scene and played at various clubs including Pontefract Collieries, Ossett Albion, Tadcaster, Emley and Glasshoughton.
After retiring from playing, Holmes managed Ossett Albion’s reserves and under 19s before becoming manager of Nostell Miners Welfare in the NCE League Premier Division. After that he had a spell as assistant manager at Evo-Stik Division One South team AFC Goole.
Crofton based Vigars has been the manager at Wakefield City FC for the past 14 years. In his early playing days, he gained experience in the NCE League and Unibond League. In 1997, he spent six months at West Ham United preparing for a four year contract he had signed with a club in New York. However in his second season in New York he sustained a knee injury which forced him to return home.
Welfare resume training at Leeds Road next Tuesday. Old and new players will be welcomed. For more details contact Darren Holmes on 07703833275.
