Right-back or central defender Peltier had a year left to run on his contract at Elland Road, but following talks it has been agreed that he can leave early after finding himself out of the team last season.

United have now officially confirmed the player’s departure and Peltier has tweeted: “I have now officially left Leeds United football club, just want to thank all the people at the club who have helped and supported me.

“All the fans that have supported me over the two years, and all the boys at the club been a pleasure working with them - top lads, wish them all the best for the season, now time for me to me on to the next chapter off my career and look forward to the future.”

Peltier, 27, joined United two years ago from Leicester City, but spent the closing months of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest after falling out of favour under Brian McDermott.

He made 73 appearances for Leeds, scoring one goal.
