Leeds United boss pleased with Slovenia trip despite final defeat

The Whites went down 1-0 to Ferencvaros to make it two defeats from three friendlies in Slovenia, but manager Brian McDermott was happy with his players.

He said: “I can see things panning out and this has been a great tour for us.

“We couldn’t have wished for better and it was exactly what I hoped for.

“No-one could accuse us of picking easy games. There wasn’t a lot in the (Ferencvaros) game and they scored from the chance they had.

“We had a couple of penalty appeals and they looked like nailed-on penalties to me.

“But I was really, really pleased. We’ve had nine days of tough training and games and this is the reason why we came here.

“The boys can’t be accused of not getting the details right, we tried to do the right things and there were some great performances in the games.

“I’m really pleased about the trip, the boys have conducted themselves really well and they have been a credit to the club.

“I hope the travelling fans have enjoyed themselves over here and it is a place that you would have no problem coming back to.”

In the last of the tour games McDermott gave an hour to most of the players who had only played 30 minutes in the previous match before switching the side round for the closing stages.

Leeds came close to scoring through Matt Smith, Ross McCormack, Luke Murphy, David Norris and Aidan White while the biggest of their two penalty shouts saw them denied although Stephen Warnock appeared to be bodychecked.

The only goal of the game came for Ferencvaros in the 53rd minute when Daniel Bode found space in the area to shoot past Paddy Kenny.
