Leeds United’s chief operating officer quits

Mystery surrounds the sudden departure of Leeds United’s chief operating officer Matt Child, who has resigned his position after less than four months in the role.

The life-long Leeds supporter stepped down from the job today with neither him or the club making any official comment to elaborate on his departure.

Child took on the chief operating officer job on December 12 after working in the telecommunications industry.

When starting, he revealed he had been a long time fan of the club.

He then said: “It’s clichéd but I’m genuinely honoured to represent the club.

“The opportunity to deliver value to your hometown team and city doesn’t happen that often, if at all, so when I was asked to step in, there was only one answer.

“I have been involved for a few months behind the scenes and have been hugely impressed by the president’s passion, commitment and will to win.

“We find ourselves in interesting times, but as a Leeds fan I know only too well that we are often at our best when we have adversity.”

In a separate development today Malaysian multi-national leisure company The Genting Group denied any interest in buying into Leeds United.
