Smith and Poleon out - Montenegro in at Leeds United

After completing two more deals on transfer window deadline day Leeds United have moved to balance the books a little by selling two strikers.

Matt Smith has joined Fulham while Dominic Poleon is now an Oldham Athletic player after both players completed deals late in the day.

Smith has joined former Leeds team-mate Ross McCormack at Fulham for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £500,000.

This is despite him signing a three-year contract with the Elland Road club only last month.

Smith, who has made five appearances and has scored one goal for the Whites this season, made 43 appearance in all competitions last season, scoring 13 goals.

Poleon, meanwhile, has left for Oldham for an undisclosed fee after making 36 appearances for Leeds in his two years with the club, scoring four times.

On his capture, Oldham manager Lee Johnson said: “Poleon is a young talent who is quite unproven but he’s got a good reputation in football with the managers he’s worked with.

“We believe he needs to be coached and educated but we know he has the raw potential to be a big asset to this club and that’s why the chairman has gone the extra mile to sign him.”

Earlier in the day, Leeds signed winger or striker Brian Montenegro on a season long loan from Nacional Asunción, subject to international clearance.

The deal includes an option to sign the 21-year-old of he impresses at Elland Road.

Montenegro is a Paraguayan under 20 international and played in the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in 2013.

He has experience in English football after he was loaned to West Ham United during the 2011-12 season and has become Leeds’ 15th signing of the summer.

In another deal, United confirmed that striker Souleymane Doukara’s loan move from Catania is now a permanent one.

The striker, who has made an impressive start at Leeds before picking up an ankle injury, put pen to paper on a three-year deal on Monday evening.
