Pontefract Collieries were unable to make further strides in their Premier Division title charge when they lost 2-1 at home to Penistone Church on Tuesday night.
They were quickly back in action after an encouraging day last Saturday when they won 2-0 at home to a strong Bridlington Town side while leaders AFC Mansfield dropped points in a draw with Garforth Town.
The results left Colls just five points off the top before playing the first of five games in hand on Mansfield. But they could not capitalise after letting a half-time lead slip. Aaron Moxam put Ponte ahead in the first half only for Danny Howes to equalise on 55 minutes and Kieran Ryan to net a 71st minute winner for the visitors.
Ponte had made it 10 straight wins in the league when they overcame Bridlington at the Harratts Nissan Stadium.
Scorers in their hard fought 2-0 success were Kieran Scargill and Moxam.
Last Wednesday Colls also took three points as they won 3-1 at Hall Road Rangers after being behind at half-time. Moxam netted twice, including a penalty, with Jack Greenhough also on target.
This Saturday Pontefract face a tough game at fourth-placed Handsworth Parramore and they are away to Athersley Recreation next Wednesday.
