Pontefract Collieries took a giant stride towards promotion and the Toolstation NCE League title with a fantastic performance and 3-0 win over long time leaders AFC Mansfield.

Craig Parry’s men took over at the top of the Premier with the victory and one more win will give them a historic first promotion to the Evo-Stik League while two more from their four remaining matches will clinch them the title for the first time.

Colls will now be aiming to secure back-to-back promotions if they win at Maltby Main on Saturday to complete an amazing week for the club with three wins already.

The latest came on a night to be remember in Mansfield as a header from local lad Mikey Dunn put Ponte ahead on the half-hour to settle any nerves.

Aaron Moxam doubled the advantage early in the second half, finishing off Eli Hey’s good work, and it was Hey himself who made it 3-0 just before the hour mark.

From then on it was just about good game management as Collieries saw out the remainder for possibly the most important win in their history.
